Walk the Walk

Dillon and Tanner participated in Hurley's Walk the Walk fashion competition last Friday at the Irvine Spectrum. A group of about 15 kids from San Clemente HS represented their school against 4 other high schools-Capo Valley, Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach and Edison. Dillon and his friend, Carson, headed up the design. They were given tons of Hurley samples and had two weeks to create their own unique take on the clothing. The core group of kids also created a theme for their runway show, selected music, choreographed their "walk", created a backdrop (Tanner painted the "Art of Fashion") and miraculously pulled it all off. Our house was crazy the last few days before the show. The kids were working until the two or three in the morning the last two nights. The day before the show, Dillon wiped out on Blake's motorcycle and road-rashed his whole arm, but the show went on and it was incredible.
The energy was amazing. There were hundreds of people at the Spectrum to watch the show. Hurley had a huge stage set up in front of the carousel, music was blaring and the show was really amazing, considering these were kids that had two weeks to pull it all together. San Clemente went on last and they were so impressive. I couldn't believe how they pulled everything together so well. They came in FIRST and totally deserved it. They worked so hard and it really paid off. Dillon and Carson even won an extra honor by having their board shorts chosen for the "head to toe" competition where they had to design and make an original item of clothing of their own.
